They dreaded the… Years ago, a farmer owned land along the Atlantic seacoast. He constantly advertised for hired hands. Most people were reluctant to work on farms along the Atlantic. They dreaded the awful storms that raged across the Atlantic, wreaking havoc on the buildings and crops. As the farmer interviewed applicants for the job, he received a steady stream of refusals. Finally, a short, thin man, well past middle age, approached the farmer. “Are you a good farm hand?” the farmer asked him. “Well, I can sleep when the wind blows,” answered the little man. Although puzzled by this answer, the farmer, desperate for help, hired him. The little man worked well around the farm, busy from dawn to dusk, and the farmer felt satisfied with the man’s work. He told the rancher, “I need to inspect your ranch for illegally grown drugs.” The rancher said, “Okay, but don’t go into that field over there…”, as he pointed out the location. The DEA Agent verbally exploded and said, “Look, mister, I have the authority of the federal government with me!” Reaching into his rear back pocket, the arrogant officer removed his badge and proudly displayed it to the rancher. “See this badge?! This badge means I can go wherever I want… On any land! No questions asked, no answers given! Do you understand old man?!” The rancher nodded, apologized, and went about his chores. When I received this, I thought, ‘I don’t have time for this… And…this is really inappropriate during work.’ Then, I realized that this kind of thinking is exactly what has… When I received this, I thought, ‘I don’t have time for this… And…this is really inappropriate during work.’ Then, I realized that this kind of thinking is exactly what has caused lots of the problems in our world today. We try to keep God in church on Sunday morning… Maybe, Sunday night…And, the unlikely event of a midweek service. We do like to have Him around during sickness. And, of course, at funerals. However, we don’t have time, or room, for Him during work or play. Because that’s the part of our lives we think we can, and should, handle on our own. May God forgive me for ever thinking that there is a time or place where He is not to be first in my life. We should always have time to remember all He has done for us. Why is it so hard to tell the truth but yet so easy to tell a lie? Why are we sleepy in church, but suddenly wake up immediately the sermon is over? Why is it so hard to talk about God but yet so easy to talk about nasty stuff? Why
