They had announced the departure. Standing near the security gate, they hugged and the mother said, “I love you, and I wish you enough”. The daughter replied, “Mom, our life together has been more than enough. Your love is all I ever needed. I wish you enough, too, Mom”. They kissed and the daughter left. The mother walked over to the window where I was seated. Standing there I could see she wanted and needed to cry. I tried not to intrude on her privacy, but she welcomed me in by asking, “Did you ever say goodbye to someone knowing it would be forever?” “Yes, I have,” I replied. “Forgive me for asking, but why is this a forever goodbye?” “I am old, and she lives so far away. I have challenges ahead and the reality is – the next trip back will be for my funeral,” she said. “When you were saying goodbye, I heard you say, ‘I wish you enough’. You name them – work, family, health, friends and spirit, and you’re keeping all of these in the air. You will soon understand that work is a rubber ball. If you drop it, it will bounce back. But the other four balls: family, health, friends and spirit are made of glass. If you drop one of these, they will be irrevocably scuffed, marked, nicked, damaged or even shattered. They will never be the same. You must understand that and strive for balance in your life. How? Don’t undermine your worth by comparing yourself with others. It is because we’re different that each of us is special. Don’t set your goals too high by what other people deem important. Only you know what is best for you. Don’t take for granted things closest to your heart. Cling to them as you would life, for without them, life is meaningless. Don’t let your life slip through your fingers by living in the past or for the future. By living life only one day at a time,

God Said No

I asked God to take away my habit. God said, No. It is not for me to take away, but for you to give it up.   I asked God… I asked God to take away my habit. God said, No. It is not for me to take away, but for you to give it up.   I asked God to make my handicapped child whole. God said, No. His spirit is whole, his body is only temporary.   I asked God to grant me patience. God said, No. Patience is a by-product of tribulations; it isn’t granted, it is learned.   I asked God to give me happiness. God said, No. I give you blessings; Happiness is up to you.   I asked God to spare me pain. God said, No. Suffering draws you apart from worldly cares and brings you closer to me.   I asked God to make my spirit grow. God said, No. You must grow on your own, but I will prune you to make you fruitful.   I asked God for all things that I might enjoy life. God said, No. I will give you life, so that you may enjoy all things.   I ask God to help me love others, as much as He loves me. God said, “Ahhhh, finally you have
