Thankfulness Makes for Peace
How can we feel thankful when so much is wrong, so much is difficult, so much is not the way we’d like it to be? In today’s Gospel passage, we see Jesus crying. We know this same sorrow. We have felt the pain of crying for others, grieving over the harm that they are doing to themselves by remaining in sin or addictions or bad decisions, mourning also because of the harm that they are doing to us and to others. When we have felt this way, we have felt HIS pain, Christ’s own pain.

I want to be successful too.” The officer looked at the young soldier steadily for about three minutes and gave him a threatening order. After several years, the boss promoted one of them to the post of Senior Sales Executive but the other remained a Sales Executive. One day, the one who was not promoted could not take it anymore. He tendered his resignation and complained that the boss did not value hard-working staff, but only promoted those who flattered him. The boss knew that he worked very hard for the years he’d spent in the company, but in order to help him realize the difference between him and his counterpart who was promoted, he sent him a task. “Go and find out if anyone is selling watermelon in the market.” The disgruntled fellow went and then returned saying, “Yes, there is someone.” The boss asked how much per kilogram? Not having the answer, this young man had to go back to the market to ask. He later returned to inform the boss that the price was $12 per kilogram. The boss then told him we would send the one that was
