The Most Beautiful Flower The park bench was deserted as I sat down to read Beneath the long, straggly branches of an old willow tree Disillusioned by life with good… The Most Beautiful Flower The park bench was deserted as I sat down to read Beneath the long, straggly branches of an old willow tree Disillusioned by life with good reason to frown For the world was intent on dragging me down And if that weren’t enough to ruin my day A young boy out of breath approached me, all tired from play He stood right before me with his head tilted down And said with great excitement, “Look what I found” In his hand was a flower and what a pitiful sight With its petals all worn – not enough rain, or too little light Wanting him to take his dead flower and go off to play I faked a small smile and then shifted away But instead of retreating he sat next to my side And placed the flower to his nose And declared with overacted surprise “It sure smells pretty and it’s beautiful, too” “That’s why I picked it; here, it’s for you” The weed before me was dying or dead Not vibrant of colours: orange, yellow or red But I knew I

He was aghast to discover that… A mouse looked through a crack in the wall to see the farmer and his wife opening a package. What food might it contain? He was aghast to discover that it was a mouse trap. Retreating to the farmyard the mouse proclaimed the warning: “There is a mousetrap in the house, a mousetrap in the house!” The chicken clucked and scratched, raised her head and said, “Excuse me, Mr Mouse, I can tell this is a grave concern to you, but it is of no consequence to me. I cannot be bothered by it.” The mouse turned to the pig and told him, “There is a mousetrap in the house, a mousetrap in the house!” “I am so very sorry Mr Mouse,” sympathized the pig, “but there is nothing I can do about it but pray. Be assured that you are in my prayers.” The mouse turned to the cow. She said, “Like wow, Mr Mouse. A mouse trap. Like I am in grave danger. It’s no concern of ours at all What they choose to do down there.” “Maybe not,” the first one said, “But still I’d like to know With all the blessings they’ve received What makes them quarrel so?” The second angel stretched his wings Then smoothed a ruffled feather, “It’s just about a hopeless cause For men to live together.” “The Master’s working very hard Has been for generations….. And still they fight among themselves causing death and devastation.” The older angel softly sighed, “You can’t change things, little one, The Master’s tried everything He even sacrificed His Son!!” The young angel nodded slowly, “That’s what seems so bad! Money was tight,… We often learn the most from our children. Some time ago, a friend of mine punished his 3-year-old daughter for wasting a roll of gold wrapping paper. Money was tight, and he became infuriated when the child tried to decorate a box to put under the tree. Nevertheless, the little girl brought the gift to her father the next morning and said, “This is for you, Daddy.” He was embarrassed by his earlier overreaction, but his anger flared again when he found that the box was empty. He yelled at her, “Don’t you know that when you give someone a present, there’s supposed to be something inside of it?” The little girl looked up at him with tears in her eyes and said, “Oh, Daddy it’s not empty. I blew kisses into the box. All for you, Daddy.” The father was crushed. He put his arms around his little girl, and he begged her forgiveness.
