Mary and her husband Jim had a dog, Lucky. Lucky was a real character. Whenever Mary and Jim had company come for a weekend visit they would warn their friends… Mary and her husband Jim had a dog, Lucky. Lucky was a real character. Whenever Mary and Jim had company come for a weekend visit they would warn their friends to not leave their luggage open because Lucky would help himself to whatever struck his fancy. Inevitably someone would forget and something would come up missing. Mary or Jim would go to Lucky’s toy box in the basement and there the treasure would be, amid all of Lucky’s favorite toys. Lucky always stashed his finds in his toy box and he was very particular that his toys stay in the box. It happened that Mary found out she had breast cancer. Something told her she was going to die of this disease…she was just sure it was fatal. She scheduled the double mastectomy, fear riding her shoulders. The night before she was to go to the hospital she cuddled with Lucky. A thought struck her…what would happen to Lucky? Although the three-year-old dog liked Jim he was Mary’s dog through and through. If I die Lucky will be abandoned, Mary thought. He won’t understand that I didn’t want to leave him.

Blessed are you who stand beside us as we enter new and untried ventures, For our failures will be outweighed by the times when we surprise ourselves and You. Blessed are you who ask for our help For our greatest need is to be needed. Blessed are you who help us with the graciousness of Christ. For oftentimes we need the help we cannot ask for. Blessed are you when, by all these things you assure us that the thing that Makes us individuals is not in our peculiar muscles, not in our wounded Nervous systems, nor in our difficulties in learning But in the God-given

The wealth he has accumulated (money, gold,… On his deathbed, Alexander summoned his Generals and told them his three ultimate wishes: 1. The best doctors should carry his coffin; 2. The wealth he has accumulated (money, gold, precious stones) should be scattered along the procession to the cemetery, and 3. His hands should be let loose, hanging outside the coffin for all to see. One of his Generals who was surprised by these unusual requests asked Alexander to explain. Here is what Alexander the Great had to say: 1. I want the best doctors to carry my coffin to demonstrate that, in the face of death, even the best doctors in the world have no power to heal. 2. I want the road to be covered with my treasure so that everybody sees that material wealth acquired on earth, stays on earth. 3. I want my hands to swing in the wind so that people understand that we come to this world empty handed and we leave this world empty-handed. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.” – Luke 6:37 A doctor entered the hospital in hurry having been called in for an urgent surgery. He changed his clothes and went directly to the surgery block. He found an anxious father pacing the hall waiting for the doctor. On seeing him, the man yelled: “Why did you take all this time to come? Don’t you know that my son’s life is in danger? Don’t you have any sense of responsibility?” The doctor smiled and said: “I am sorry, I wasn’t in the hospital and I came as fast as I could after receiving the call. Now, I wish you’d calm down so that I can attend to your son.” “Calm down?! What if your son was in this room right now, would you calm down? If your own son dies now what will you do?” demanded the angry father. He opened one of the doors and the holy man looked in. In the middle of the room was a large round table. In the middle of the table was a large pot of stew, which smelled delicious and made the holy man’s mouth water. The people sitting around the table were thin and sickly. They appeared to be famished. They were holding spoons with very long handles that were strapped to their arms and each found it possible to reach into the pot of stew and take a spoonful, but because the handle was longer than their arms, they could not get the spoons back into their mouths. The holy man shuddered at the sight of their misery and suffering. The Lord said, “You have seen Hell.” They went to the next room and opened the door. It was exactly the same as the first one.
